Anonymous asked: Ahhhhh! You have been soooo helpful! Thank you! So the school I am hoping to attend has the spring semester deal. What is recruitment and what does it entail? How do the sororities know who they want? IE how do i make myself wanted? Haha. What goes down in initiation? Should I be concerned? Do you suggest being in a sorority? Thanks soooooooo much!! XOXOXO

You’re very welcome! I’m so glad I could help!!

Recruitment varies a lot based on your school, so I don’t want to say too much & have it not be true for your campus! Basically, you will go to rounds each day where you will have the opportunity to meet each sorority. Some sororities you’ll absolutely love, so you will rank them higher. There will probably also be ones that you’re not that into, so you will rank them lower. Don’t worry about ranking… they’ll explain all of that to you when you get there! Each day when you arrive to recruitment you’ll know exactly which sororities you’ll be seeing. It will be exhausting, but it will be a lot of fun!

There’s probably no secret to making yourself wanted. If your school offers opportunities to meet the sororities in the fall (ie: each sorority on my campus hosts fall recruitment parties), go to them. It will help to know some girls before you go into formal recruitment. Be careful not to get yourself a bad reputation during first semester.  If you become “that girl” who sleeps around with everyone, pukes at every party, etc. the girls will probably hear about it. In recruitment, just be confident, be positive, & be polite and I’m sure you’ll be fin!

Do not be concerned about initiation. It’s amazing.

And, obviously I recommend being in a sorority! It’s by far the best decision I made for myself at college. It’s not for everyone, so if you get to campus & change your mind, that’s okay too!! But I recommend at least going through rush wherever you go!

Anonymous asked: Hello again! Sorry for being too vague about my sorority Qs! Could you just do a quick run through of what one would od if trying to join a sorority their freshman year?:) Thanks again!

No need to be sorry, dear! I just wanted to make sure I told you what you wanted to know!

Basically, any girls who are interested in joining a sorority should start for signing up for recruitment. You’re going to have to do a little bit of research on your school to know when formal recruitment is & when you should sign up. For example, my small school has formal recruitment in the spring semester, while most schools have formal rush in the fall.

The schedule of recruitment also varies for schools, but you should see all of the sororities at Open House in the first round. From there, it is a mutual selection process, meaning you pick which sororities you want to see again & they do the same with the potential new members (aka: you).

Bid Day is the last day of recruitment. That’s the day when girls would receive a bid from a sorority if they are interested in formally inviting you into membership. If you accept a bid from a sorority, your pledging process officially begins.

Pledging is a period of several weeks. The length will depend on which sorority you rush. During this time, you’re still considered a new member & you will have new member meeting to learn about the history & operations of your sorority. Basically, they’re preparing you for initiation.

During your pledging period, new members receive a big sister. Again, a lot depends on the school & the sorority you choose, but typically that is a mutual selection process as well. Girls that are able to take littles will submit their names. In my chapter, new members make a list where they rank the five girls they want to be their big. Then some magic happens & your big will be told that she got a little.

Then, you will start to get presents & clues from your big! After that, sororities will have big/little reveal when you will find out who your big is. That happens prior to initiation, which is the last step in the new member or pledge process!

I think that basically covers joining a sorority… very briefly! Let me know if you have more questions!!

Anonymous asked: Hi! So I'm a high school senior and I was hoping you could describe to me how the whole sorority thing works. I understand the basic idea, but would you mind telling me about bid day/big-littles/rushing/pledging/whatever ? It would be soooo helpful! Thank you! I love your blog, such an inspiration! XOXOX

Hello, sweet girl! I would love to talk to you about sorority life, but I’m a little unsure of what you want to know specifically. I could seriously spend all day talking about Bid Day, Bigs & Littles, rush, etc!

If you want to break up your questions or narrow them down a bit, I’d be more than happy to answer them that way! I just want to make sure I’m doing your question justice and telling you everything that you wanted to know!! Or you’re always more than welcome to come off anon & I’ll answer as many questions as you have then! Whatever works best for you :)

Thanks again for the message! I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon & hopefully helping answer some of your questions
